Friends - can’t live with them, can’t make a record without them.
I hope you’ve had a chance to hear my new single, Be With You.
If you haven’t, check out this latest review:
“solid 3 out of 5” - Carolyn Corey (Shawn’s Mom)
If that isn’t enough to convince you, consider this - the song features talented musicians Kendra Gale, Peter Hicks, and John Heinstein, and just enough cowbell to show that we’re serious.
Granted, Peter, as producer of Be With You, may have buried the cowbell in the mix, but I know he did it to protect the innocent.
Making music is great fun, and it’s even more enjoyable when you employ the skills of your creative compadres. Ask Ringo Starr. It really takes the pressure off.
If we had a bigger car, I’d make a band with these folks and take this show on the road. Maybe in retirement. Or when gas is cheaper.
Speaking of bands, you should form one.
I was talking about this the other day with my friend Sam Astorino (check out Sam’s band, Chickahominy Mountain Band, and their new LP New Brunswicana). We agreed that being in a band is the bee’s knees, and that the poor folks who have never been in a band may never know that special feeling of playing music with other cool peeps.
So I say again, form a band. If you need to learn an instrument in order to accomplish this goal, get busy on that, too. You can do it.
I’m not trying to pressure anyone (well, maybe a little), but you will thank me, I promise. Until your band breaks up, that is, as all bands do in the end. In the meantime, though, it’s a helluva ride.
I’ll be talking about this today (Wednesday) on CBC Radio One’s Shift NB. God bless the CBC, and Vanessa Vander Valk. Friends, indeed.
Well, gotta run. But if you’ve read this far (thank you!), here are some other news items:
